from the sun shining brightly through my lanai, George hanging out bedside (my Gecko roomie), and a foggy state of mind from messing with Mother Nature's circadian rhythm. This working days, evenings and overnights has me quite strung out. Where am I? What time is it? Is it Monday or Tuesday? Oh crap, am I supposed to be at work?? After playing tug-of-war with my blankets, tripping over my couch,(yes, my couch and bed are that close), scaring the crap out of George, squinting to see the clock, I am relieved to discover it is only 6:54... and it is my day off. Sweet!!
I slowly came to life, brewed some Kona coffee (love!), checked my email, and pondered what to do with my day. Now, those that know me, know that I am not what Mrs. Butterworth is to syrup or what Mr. Clean is to the Magic Eraser, especially when it comes to housework. What can I say? I am just not that good at it...nor do I care to be. However, as I swatted the 4th fruit fly of the morning, got a quick whiff of the garbage, noticed some empty wine bottles, Smack! Violently sending 5th fruit fly of the day to heaven. I decided it was time to have a fun day "Suds Day." In my defense, I live in a tropical climate, fruit flies magically appear as soon as you open anything, and well, the garbage rots as soon as the banana peel hits the liner of the trash can. By the time I finished my coffee and gathered my laundry, the sun had been taken hostage by the clouds and the rain had started. Someone must be telling me it is time to clean :) Could it be George? I am sure he has felt a bit overworked these past few weeks.
Somewhere between my vacuum tango and scrubbing karaoke, I decided it was time to 'rearrange' after obtaining some bruised shins and stubbed toes. Having been here for almost 3 weeks, things just haven't felt 'homy.' My studio living has felt off. Uninviting. Uncomfortable. Crowded. Suffocating.
I wonder why? ha!! |
It truly is amazing how candles instantly transform a house to a home. (in this case a studio to an tempting palace :) After calling upon my new friend, Peter (a fellow traveler) to help move the pull out couch, maneuver my bed and tv stand, transfer the kitchen table to living room/bedroom/dining room: my place suddenly felt: Warm. Inviting. Appealing. Pleasant. Homy.
I instantly felt connected. Energized. Giddy. On top of the world. I spent the rest of the day jogging around the Japanese gardens, taking pictures, Christmas shopping, and just feeling good. At peace. Fen Shui literally translates to "Wind and Water." Some of Mother Nature's most powerful assets. Both can take on various meanings, but take a moment, if you will, to ponder about Wind. Water. Let your mind wander. I took a break here to look up the true meaning of Fen Shui...I challenge you to do the same. I find this link to be simple yet very interesting...http://www.huna.org/html/fengshui.html
As it turns out, I know very little about Fen Shui, but what I can tell you, is this: I accomplished a "runner's high" simply by rearranging my furniture. Harmony. Balance. Peace. Energy. I think this Fen Shui ritual has a very valid lesson to be learned; which I vow to learn more about during my stay here in Hilo.
Which brings me to my main point. Funny how we all take time out of our lives for daily dishes, bi-weekly laundry, weekly vacuuming, dusting, and toilet scrubs (I hope you all aren't disgusted by my infrequency of this) but rarely a mind, soul, and body cleanse. Each are far more delicate than woodwork and porcelain, yet we rarely truly nourish them, cleanse them, detoxify them.
Which is why my next mission in Hilo is to join a yoga gym. I truly believe we can stretch, strengthen, bend, and mold our minds and bodies into whatever we want them to be. The secret is knowing the answer to this riddle.
Tomorrow: Tune in to the positive energy you created simply by rearranging your thoughts, your beliefs, your aura, your energy. I bet you find yourself feeling Connected. Energized. Giddy. At Peace. At Rest.
